Memory Verses for Aug. 23rd

August 23rd, 2009

Foundation Memory Verse – “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.”  (Proverbs 3:5)

Fighter Verse – “For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been His counselor?” “Or who has given a gift to Him that he should be repaid?” For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things.  To Him be glory forever.  Amen.”  (Romans 11:34-36)

The Reason We Do What We Do

August 20th, 2009

Last night, we had a wonderful worship service at church.  We had, Jim Burke, Director of Missions of Lafayette Baptist Association, come and do some illusions, juggling and ventriloquism for the kids and their families.  Of course, he aims to make it fun and entertaining for everybody, but his main goal is to share the gospel with all those who are there.  That is the reason why he does what he does.  And, of course, we knew that the gospel was going to be shared, which is why we wanted him to come.  We wanted a fun event for the kids and at the same time, be able to share with them the truth of God’s love for them.

Last night, after the service, we had two of our boys come and receive Christ into their lives.  Of course, this wasn’t the first time they had heard the gospel.  Their parents have been faithful in teaching the gospel to them as well as their Sunday school and RA teachers sharing it with them.  But last night, something was said that brought it all home for them and as a result, they have found salvation!  This is a time for celebration in the ministry!  The angels are rejoicing for these two souls that have been found by Christ.  This is the reason why we do what we do.  We do seek to have fun.  We want the kids to enjoy the things we do.  But ultimately, we do things with the specific purpose of leading the children to the cross of Christ.  We want them to find the salvation that can come through Christ alone.

Join with me in praising God for these two boys.  It is truly a time to rejoice and be glad!

Foundation Verses:

“No one can serve two masters.”  (Matthew 6:24a)

Fighter Verses:

“And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you, but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways, to love Him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to keep the commandments and statutes of the Lord, which I am commanding you today for your good?”  (Deuteronomy 10:12-13)

Gospel Illusionist

August 12th, 2009

Next week we have a special guest coming.  His name is Jim Burke and he is a Gospel illusionist (he presents the gospel through illusions and ventriloquism).  This will be during the Wednesday night Bible study hour next week from 6:45 pm – 7:30 pm.  We invite you and your family to be here for this special time of worship.  But we also would like for you to invite all of your friends, neighbors, and co-workers to be here on this night as well.  This will be a great way to present the Gospel to them.  And be sure to invite them to the 6:00 pm supper before the worship service.

Memory Verses

August 7th, 2009

bible-studying-pen-papgerI have just added two new pages above, “Fighter Verses” and “Foundation Memory Verses”, which each included memory verses for your family to work on together.  “Foundation Memory Verses” are specially chosen verses for younger children around the preschooler age, although all people can benefit from these verses.  “Fighter Verses” are for people of all ages.  These verses are great for parents and children to memorize together and have a special time of recitation together throughout the week.  Memorizing verses is a vital spiritual discipline for all believers and I pray that this will become a valuable resource for you and your family.  You can find the link to both pages up in the green ribbon near the top of this page.  It is my prayer and desire to provide resources to families that can help you all grow in your relationship with God together.

God Always Wins

August 7th, 2009

This is a study that we have been going through for that past several weeks, since the end of VBS.  It is called, “God Always Wins.”  It is a study of the Sovereignty of God.  I want to include all the parent sheets that go along with each lesson for the parents to be able to download at their convenience.  My prayer is that your children will see how great and powerful and wonderful the God we worship truly is.  It is my hope and prayer that each one of them will be drawn to Him into such a relationship with Him that they will desire Him above all other things and as a result, will choose to live for Him and to share His love with those around them.  But this cannot happen without the loving support of their parents guiding them to this end.  That is why I join with you in praying for you as you seek to teach and to train your children in the ways of the Lord.

This information will always be available on a page titled, “God Always Wins,” the link to which can be found at the top of this page.

What a Summer!

August 4th, 2009

Welcome to the new blog of the FBC Abbeville Children’s Ministry!  I’m really excited about getting this started.

This has really been a great and exciting summer.  I’m sad that it has to come to an end so soon.  But as they say, “all good things must come to an end.”  Well, of course, not all good things come to an end.  We have eternal life in Christ.  But, sadly, this summer cannot last forever.

This summer started off with a bang with VBS (Boomerang Express) on June 15th.  We had on average about 75 kids and 25 youth each night.  And we had about 60 adults helping out in some area (Thanks to everyone who helped with VBS!)  The kids learned that everything comes back to Jesus and that life is best when we live it in love and service to God.

Then we took the kids each week to see a movie at the new Amp theater.  The movies were “Journey to the Center of the Earth”, “Space Chimps”, “Paul Blart: Mall Cop”, “Madagascar 2″, and “Kung Fu Panda.”  The kids had a great time at each of these movies, plus the parents loved them because they were free (well, except for “Kung Fu Panda”, which was $2.00, because that was at the Malco.)  I had a lot of fun spending this time with the kids.  And we normally had a couple other parents attend with us, including Bro. Scott.

Finally, we were invited by one of our parents to go over to their house last Wednesday night for a swimming party.  The kids had a great time.  Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t the best, but all the adults figured that the kids were going to be wet anyways, so a little rain was not going to hurt anything.  Thankfully, there was no lightning so we didn’t have to cancel.

And, of course, as always we have our first Sunday of the month Children’s church, or better known as “Bro. James Day” by the kids.  Children’s church continues on throughout the entire year, so I would like to invite you to bring your children on the first Sunday of each month where we have a special service for them.  They sing praises to God and then we have a Bible study, usually including some kind of activity that helps to illustrate what we are learning that day.  And I would not be able to do this without the great help of parents who so graciously miss out on being served in the adult worship to come and serve the kids during this time.

Once again, I say thank you to all of the help that has been given.  There is no way I can do this job without all the faithful servants who participate in this ministry with me.  You truly are a blessing from God!

Let me say, that the summer may be over, but the children’s ministry is pressing on!  On Wed. August 19th @ 6:45 pm, we will have a special guest illusionist come and present the gospel to the kids and their families.  All the parents and grandparents are invited to attend with the children during this great time of worship.  And we will have other events coming up in the near future.  Keep your eyes open to the great things God is doing in the lives of our children.
